So here, Stuart weeps at the grave of Aaron's sister Sally. - Uploaded at his request.
March 28, 2015 Dear Burrites and Friends, It is with pleasure that Helena & I attach the Registration Form for our Oct. 11-17th events, starting with the Morris-Jumel Mansion Burr bust unveiling, and moving eastward to Farmington-Fairfield-Litchfield, Ct. We should be arriving during the peak of fall foliage. Your humble servant, StuartNote two new event announcements: Our featured Saturday Annual Luncheon guest speaker will be member John Endicott, who will explain his new book, being published in October, called: Aaron Burr In Exile- A Pariah in Paris, 1810-1811. Wednesday night will feature dinner at the home of Mary and Peter Tavino, adjacent to the Tapping Reeve Law School Please link to letter and complete Form below:
Jan 2., 2015We are pleased to announce that the 2015 annual meeting of the Aaron Burr Association will be held from Monday (Columbus Day), October 12, through, and including Saturday, the 17th, with our sleeping-room block hotel being in Farmington, Connecticut (a beautiful suburb of West Hartford).
Last year, Oct. 17th was the peak of fall foliage in this portion of Connecticut, so we are in for blazing colors and, probably, very good weather.
Our hotel will be the HARTFORD MARRIOTT FARMINGTON, 15 Farm Springs Rd, Farmington, CT 06032. Telephone, direct: 1-860-678-1000. Our rate is $139 per night, double occupancy, plus taxes. Ask for a complimentary mini frig. This is a beautiful, modern, full-service property, in a quiet, semi-rural setting. A few weeks ago, Helena, Commodore Harry Anderson and I stayed there, and we loved it. The lounge, restaurants, and bar/lounge are impressive. Stuart already has signed a contract.
Here are some of the venues we plan to set dates for, in a few weeks:
- the Lewis-Walpole Library (owned by Yale University), established by a grant by Harry's ancestor's husband (Annie Burr Jennings). This library, in Farmington, is home to the Nag's Head portrait of Theodosia Burr (Aaron's daughter) and, I think, her pearl necklace. The curators of the library want to have a small reception for us, as we have a guided tour.
- the Fairfield History Center and Museum, in Fairfield (a 75-minute drive from Farmington). Harry and Stuart had a private tour in mid-December, and it is a major facility, full of impressive exhibits, including of Harry's Jennings family. The Thaddeus Burr House is next door. This venue is a must-see for us.
- The Judge Tapping Reeve Law School, now a museum, in Litchfield, Ct (a 45 minute drive, on rural roads, from Farmington). Five miles from where Aaron attended law school, there, is Bethlehem, Ct., where Aaron first spent a year studying for the ministry, before deciding on the law, instead.
- Other possible venues are the Mark Twain House, and the Wadsworth Athaneum, in W. Hartford; tours of Hill-Stead Museum, and Miss Porter's School's campus, in Farmington. Please give me your feedback.
There are some exciting restaurants in Farmington.
Book early at the Marriott; say you are with ABA.
Your humble servant,
Stuart
